I love cake, in all its forms and flavors, shapes and sizes. I have always wanted to make a quick mug cake in my office, but never came around to actually carry the ingredients and do it. My sister often makes me mug cakes at home, her obsession for baking continues.
So when dear friend Adil Marawala posted about his discovery of the new range of mug cakes at one of my favorite ice cream parlors – Kreamzz, it was clear that I had to try it too.
So, one time during my lunch break at office, I drive down to the place and walk in the door. I meet the guy there (sorry, forgot the name, never been good with names) and I tell him bake me a mug cake. He asks me what flavor would I like, I tell him make it whatever is your best. He says you want something in chocolate maybe, I am like, anything that’s your best, I have another half an hour before I reach the one hour break mark, I am in the middle of my shift. He understands, asks me to take a seat and tells me about 10-15 minutes. I take a seat, incidentally at the same table where I was last time. Settle down, study the menu, look around. There is a group of young folks right opposite my table and they are super super noisy. So noisy, I can’t listen to the music they are playing. That is a bit of mood killer. I was like maybe I should sit outside in the open.
The mug cake arrived. Looks yummy. I wish I could carry it to office and have it bit by bit and relish it. But alas! Time crunches. So I poke my spoon in, it comes out clean without any cake bits stuck to it. Happy. I am no baking expert, but one thing I know is mug cakes can be tricky to bake as sometimes, the middle tends to remain a little soggy and uncooked. But this one is not like it. It is perfectly baked.

I take my first bite. It is heavenly delicious. As Nigella Lawson says, I was divinely indulged. It was heavenly. Loved it every bit of it. It as amazing, with portions of liquid chocolate in between. I never tried figuring out the actual name or constituents in the menu. It was a blind tasting and I let it be that way till the very end when I paid the bill. That is the fun of it. Blind tastings are a joyful experience, because you have a surprise in every bit of it.

Next, I had asked for an Arabian Nights milk shake on the go. It had dates, bananas and coffee in a perfect blend to take you on a tour on the flying carpet, Kaleen, like a trip through one of those stories of Arabian Nights. Packaged beautifully. Not a drop spilt throughout my bumpy journey. Good packaging is always appreciated, people can’t imagine the relief it brings when the product is nicely packaged for a transit.

The milkshake was sealed with a nice Aluminum foil, tightly sealed over with a plastic lid. And then put into a recycled paper bag. Loved it, take a bow for that. Now the taste. Superb. Chopped dates on a smooth base of banana with a slight flavor of coffee. Neither flavors are overpowering, a perfect balance, a delight of flavors in the mouth. I nursed the glass for about two hours, and everybody I shared a sip with, loved it too. Would I have it again, most definitely. Slightly frothy, but super flavors. Yummy yummy.
