Living in India, I never had the kind of exposure to the American tradition of PB&J sandwiches as a kid. I grew up loving my bread and butter, and my idea of sandwiches was a much Indianized version, which never even distantly mentioned peanut butter. But studying dairy and food technology, I got exposed to a number of dishes and products that I otherwise was quite ignorant of, and one of them was Peanut Butter, with which, over time, I developed a kind of love-hate relationship. I love having peanut butter, that love surfaces from time to time, so I go and buy a jar. I enthusiastically open it, eat almost half of it with bread, with milk, just like that directly from the jar, etc. But as the quantity of the butter in the jar sinks below half, I begin hating the butter. There is no change in the flavor or texture, but I am kinda getting bored of it, and I just want to get rid of it, throw it away, and the jar to just end. And then this whole cycle will repeat sometime later, maybe weeks, maybe months.
Seeing Peanut Butter Waffles on the Kreamzz menu, did not honestly excite me a huge lot, thanks to this love-hate relationship I have with Peanut Butter. But right now I am in the off phase, and I thought let’s try it, how bad could it be, it’s not like buying a jar, after all! So I order one, settle in my seat to have it.
My waffle arrives, topped with a scoop of Nutella and roasted salted peanuts, popular locally as Khari Sing. It is not excessively sweet, or excessively peanut-y. It is a balance of salty and savory. When you say peanut butter, it generally has a good balance of salt and sweet, generally using the common salt and honey. Same goes for this waffle. And the Nutella twist sweetens the deal as well. It does tend to get a little bit dry, making me struggle a bit to swallow it, but it’s my own doing, not ordering Ice cream to go with the waffle. But the peanuts tends to that, it is a property they have. The waffles in itself, are amazing. I still love Red Velvet Waffles more, but Peanut Butter ain’t bad either. For Peanut Butter lovers, this would be a great delight. You could think of asking for a peanut butter topping instead of Nutella maybe, whatever you prefer. But the new Waffle menu at Kreamzz definitely has me hooked to it, no doubt about that.
