Everybody would have had sweet biscuits, and salted biscuits. But at Delecta Bakery, Calicut, Kerala I got to experience biscuits with Garam Masala and curry leaves. In a city well known for Halwas, Delecta bakery at Bank Road opposite Ashoka Hospital stands apart.
Established in 1944, Delecta Bakery is known for its sweet and savory delicacies. The Bakery was started by Shankaran and is today run by the third generation of his family. Today it is a fully functional bakery and all the delicacies it sells are mostly made in the store itself. Also, like most popular shops, it doesn’t have any other branches.

The Masala Biscuits from Delecta Bakery have refined flour, sugar, pepper, salt, garam masala, cardamom, onion, garlic, butter and curry leaves as its ingredients. One of the most popular varieties of biscuits in Calicut, the masala biscuits are normal cookies with a spicy twist. Everyone would love sweet cookies, but for those like me who would relish a dash of spice too, the Masala Biscuits from Delecta Bakery make a super delight. Also known as ‘Khara Biscuits’, these biscuits have a flavor that will make you relish your tea time even more.
