Masala Square Bites from Modi’s

Those evening tea times become even more interesting and fun with a spicy treat. Somewhere in the mind of some innovative person, bhakharwadi and sandwiches got married and there came their baby – masala square bites. Known by different names in different shops, the Masala Square Bites from Modi’s Narayan Pedhewala are a delight for the evening tea-time. Or like me, you can stock it up in your office drawer for those untimed hunger pangs just before you are running for a meeting. You don’t want your tummy rumbling for all to hear in the middle of a major presentation, do you?

Modi’s Narayan Pedhewale are famous for their world-class Kendi Pedhas and variety of barfis. The Masala Bites from here were delivered to my doorstep, fresh and crisp, packed in a sturdy cardboard box. I transferred it into an airtight container to maintain their crispy texture.

They have two layers made from gram flour, sandwiching a spicy stuffing, similar to how bhakarwadi rolls up. They are pretty light, not too oily and easy. Make for a great halka phulka snack.
