There’s a new joint in town offering smokey delights straight from the tandoor. If you appreciate and have an immense liking for non-vegetarian fare, look no more, there’s a new eatery in town which offers juicy, smokey delights, straight from the tandoor. Offering some signature dishes like green chili chicken and totally desi delhi-style butter chicken, among many other dishes, the Charcoal House is a new eatery that has opened up near Manisha Cross Roads, off O.P. Road.
I being a vegetarian was unable to sample the non-vegetarian fare being offered, but my conversations and observations at the place assured me of the fan following in making. For my part, I ordered a subz biryani. It is not every day that you would find a biryani not overloaded with cauliflowers (boy, they are expensive these days!), and potatoes (the sada bahar vegetable), floating on a tub of oil.
Getting a nicely spiced and cooked biryani with just enough vegetables covered with flavorful rice on top, giving out tempting layers of each, is a matter of luck sometimes, but mostly a matter of art and perfection. My biryani came like that – topped with a sprig of fresh mint, layer of long rice, covering the layer of vegetables and spices; accompanied with a bowl of mixed veg raita.
The biryani was fresh and flavorful. The vegetables were appropriately cooked as was the rice, emanating a nice aroma. The biryani had a tinge of smokey flavor from the cooking, which was indeed very delightful.
Following the biryani with some dessert, I ordered the Mango Panna Cotta and a Tiramisu. The Mango Panna Cotta was good, with real mango pulp topped upon soft and creamy vanilla panna cotta. It was indeed a very nice smooth dessert. The Tiramisu was the best. You can find a lot of places serving the Tiramisu, and the one I had at the Charcoal House has indeed been one of the best I have ever had.
With a very qualified and experiences crew in place, Chef Punit Madan, who also happens to own the place has curated a great menu, with simple yet great offerings which are indeed quite enticing. One very important observation I had is that the team is very open to feedback and loves hearing from you about any suggestion or scope of improvement.
There is a café being built right next to the restaurant, and should open up soon.
