Bisi bele bhath is a rice-based dish with origins in the state of Karnataka. In Kannada, ‘Bisi Bele Bhath’ means ‘hot lentil rice’. The traditional preparation of Bisi Bele Bhath is quite elaborate, involving use of spicy masala, toor dal, vegetables, etc. Commonly used spices are like nutmeg, asafoetida, curry leaves, tamarind pulp, etc. It is served hot and sometimes eaten with chatni, boondi, salad, papad or potato chips.
The twist of this dish, is that, it was made with daliya and not with rice as it usually is. This made the dish tad a bit more chewy, an attribute that generally comes with dishes made with daliya. But it was tasty for sure.
Overall, I would say, great twist, nice thinking. I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The spices were perfect, the dish was well cooked, the vegetables were appropriately tender. Some twists are for the good, no?
