Black Tea Mellower than Most

Located in the Barak Valley, Assam; Coombergram is home to beautiful tea gardens. All the way from there comes this tea blend by TeaBox called as the Coombergram Classic Summer Black Tea is a black tea that’s mellower than most teas you know, and yet full of flavor. The flavors are big and robust, but they come quite smooth on the palate, so irrespective of whether you have a seasoned palate or a new one, this tea would sit well with you.

This tea sample came in as part of the Verve Diwali Gift Box I received, and I am still enjoying the teas in it, piece-by-piece. The Coombergram Classic Summer Black Tea has been labelled as a perfect for a Monday, so I took TeaBox’s advise and brewed myself a cup.

The moment you open the pack a fresh aroma of raspberries, cherries and a little bit woody fills up the air. The dry leaves of the tea are tightly rolled, even and black.

Adding 1.5 tsp of the tea leaves to 180 fl oz of fresh filtered water, and put it on the flame. The cocoa-colored infusion gives out an aroma of coriander, malt and just a tiny hint of tomato.

The tea liquor, once prepared is a dark orange shade, and the aroma is a subtle sweetness of maple syrup and stewed fruit with distant notes of herbs. The liquor is mellow and medium-bodied. Notes of honey and malt are discernible in the middle, accompanied, in parts, by a soft note of toffee that fades quickly. The finish is fresh and clean.

This tea is best had plain but it could be added with milk and condiments like honey, lemon and/or sugar. I pick honey and a few drops of lemon. The tea is best had in the morning and is high on caffeine.

This would definitely be a wake-me-up kind of tea to jolt you awake and get you into office mode. I feel it would go best with toast and butter and jam, and some cookies on the side. For people who eat eggs, maybe a sunny side up, or scrambled eggs could go well with this tea too. It is a classic breakfast tea, with good flavors, yet mellow, smooth and easy.
